ISKA Sri Lanka Announces Leadership Team for the 2026–2027 Term
New appointments establish leadership across officiating, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, grappling, mixed martial arts and sport karate.
SRI LANKA — ISKA Sri Lanka has announced its leadership team for the 2026–2027 term, appointing officials to oversee technical standards, competition administration and the development of combat sports throughout the country.
The appointments bring together professionals from several martial arts disciplines, establishing a leadership structure intended to support athletes, coaches, referees, promoters and affiliated clubs.
The new team includes representatives responsible for officiating, sport-specific committees and technical development. Their work will focus on strengthening national operations while creating opportunities for Sri Lankan athletes to participate in organized competition at home and internationally.
Technical and Officiating Division
Wasantha Senarathne has been appointed Director of Officiating, with responsibility for supporting officiating standards and the development of competition officials.
Sport Committees
The following appointments have been announced for the 2026–2027 term:
- Kru Rohan Thushara — Chairman, Muay Thai Committee
- Kasun De Silva — Chairman, BJJ & Grappling Committee
- Romesh De Silva — Technical Director, BJJ & Grappling Committee
- Shenal Fernando — Chairman, Amateur MMA Committee
- Tithira Perera — Technical Director, Amateur MMA Committee
- Sensei Chandani Samarasekara — Chairwoman, Sport Karate Committee
- Kaushalya Nirmana — Chairman, Kata & Forms Committee
Together, the appointees represent experience in coaching, officiating, athlete development and competition management. Their responsibilities will span disciplines with different technical requirements, making coordination and consistent organizational standards central to the team’s work.
Priorities for the 2026–2027 Term
ISKA Sri Lanka has identified several areas of focus for its incoming leadership team, including governance, technical education, athlete development and international cooperation.
The organization intends to strengthen its administrative and regulatory framework while expanding education and certification opportunities for coaches and officials.
Another priority is developing clearer pathways for athletes, from participation in local competitions to opportunities at the international level.
The leadership team will also work to encourage collaboration among the country’s combat sports communities, including Muay Thai, mixed martial arts, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, grappling, sport karate, and kata and forms.
These efforts are intended to support a more coordinated national structure while recognizing the distinct rules, traditions and competitive requirements of each discipline.
Building a Stronger National Structure
The appointments mark a new phase in ISKA Sri Lanka’s efforts to develop combat sports through organized leadership and consistent technical standards.
By assigning responsibility across officiating and individual sport committees, the organization aims to improve coordination among officials, coaches, clubs and competition organizers.
The structure also provides a foundation for educational initiatives and athlete development programs designed to support participation at different levels of experience.
